Mechanically, oil boilers are very similar to traditional boilers with the exception of the fuel source used to produce heat. Oil boilers and spares are produced by a range of manufacturers. Oil Boilers are traditionally larger than gas boilers due to the size of the burner. The heat only and the central heating boilers only work for one system or the other and tend to be used in tandem with hot water cylinders to heat both systems within a household.
The combi boiler allows water to be heated in both the central heating (radiators) and domestic water heating systems (taps, showers, etc) within a household. Oil boilers are available as combi boilers, central heating boilers and heat only boilers.
